Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
